How the Hänel integration works

Hänel builds the Rotomat vertical carousel and the Lean-Lift vertical lift module — compact goods-to-person storage that reclaims floor space by using the height of the building. BizBloqs connects to the Hänel controller so the machine becomes an addressable part of your warehouse instead of a separate island with its own stock list.

Hänel — via Hänel MP / Unilift controller and Hänel Softlift

Task exchange with the Hänel controller software over its documented host interface

Hänel machines are driven by their own MP or Unilift controller, optionally with Hänel Softlift as the inventory and management layer. BizBloqs exchanges tasks with that controller: store this item in this quantity, pick these lines for this order, count this compartment. The machine positions the shelf or tray at the access opening, the operator confirms, and the confirmed quantity and compartment come back into the WMS. The point of the integration is the shelf-level model — a Rotomat carrier or a Lean-Lift tray is divided into compartments in BizBloqs, so two articles in one tray remain two separate stock positions and a count instruction can target one compartment instead of the whole machine.

Availability depends on your controller generation and on whether the host interface option is enabled. Older MP generations may expose a reduced message set; we confirm this during the site survey rather than at go-live.

This is our standard integration. An empty field means that message is not exchanged in that direction by default. Integrations can be modified or extended customer-specific through workflows.

How we roll it out

1. Site survey
We map the Hänel equipment on your floor: models, controller software version, firmware and which interface options are actually licensed. This is where surprises normally live.
2. Interface agreement
We agree the exchange format and transport with the vendor or your service partner, and who owns which side of the connection after go-live.
3. Location model
The machine's internal storage structure is mirrored in BizBloqs so stock is addressable per tray, shelf, compartment or lane instead of hidden inside a black box.
4. Test cycle
Store, pick, partial pick, short pick, count and correction are all run on real equipment, including the failure paths: machine offline, tray blocked, operator overrides the quantity.
5. Go-live
We go live with your team on the floor and monitor task queues for the first days. A task that fails is visible and replayable — it is never silently dropped.

Integration FAQ

Rotomat and Lean-Lift are different machines — is the integration different?

The mechanics differ, the interface does not. Both are driven through the Hänel controller, so BizBloqs sends the same task set; only the compartment model per carrier or tray is configured differently.

We already use Hänel Softlift. Does it stay?

It can. Softlift keeps doing what it does well on the machine side; BizBloqs takes over order-driven task creation and the warehouse-wide stock position, so you stop maintaining two separate item lists.

Can one Lean-Lift tray hold several articles?

Yes, and that is exactly why the compartment model matters. Each compartment is its own location in BizBloqs, so a mixed tray does not collapse into one vague stock number.

Who owns stock: BizBloqs or Hänel?

BizBloqs. The machine knows what is physically in a tray or a lane; BizBloqs holds the stock position for the whole warehouse, including everything stored outside the automation, and reconciles the two on every confirmed movement.

What happens if the equipment is offline?

Work continues. Tasks stay queued in BizBloqs and orders that can be served from conventional locations keep flowing; the queue drains once the equipment is back. Nothing is confirmed that did not physically happen.

Do we have to replace our existing equipment?

No. The integration is built against the controller software you already run. We only ask for the interface option to be licensed and the version to be current enough to support it.

Can this run alongside conventional shelving?

Yes, and most sites do. BizBloqs treats the automation as one storage type among several and routes each line to whichever location makes the pick fastest.

Is this a partnership or an integration?

Hänel is an integration, not a commercial partnership. We connect to the equipment on behalf of a shared customer; there is no reseller or referral relationship implied.
