3PL

A Third Party Logistics (3PL) provider is a company that operates warehousing, fulfilment, and transportation on behalf of other businesses. A 3PL receives goods on behalf of its clients, stores them, picks and packs customer orders, arranges carriers, and often handles returns — while the goods legally remain the client's inventory.

3PLs range from single-warehouse regional operators to global networks. Multi-client 3PLs need a WMS that can segregate inventory and reporting by client, bill for services (storage, picks, receipts), and expose portals or APIs so each client can see their own stock and orders in real time.
